My xbox 360 used to connect to my laptop without any problems. i ddnt even hav to configure any settings or start a setup or smthin, i jus conected directly. btw i HAD at that time windows xp home edition and conected thru wmp11. then i started having problems after instaling a program then my computer wudnt start anymor. so i repaired my computer with a cd caled "Windows XP Pro N Version 2002

You can pick third party ones up from ebay for a few quid. Never heard of a USB power surge, i use a wired one with my PC alot with no problems
